People enjoy our oysters with an ice-cold Belvedere martini or Kane Overhead, brewed locally,” said Sam Howley, general manager. The well-oiled machine continues in the kitchen with Executive Chef Eloy Leonor and his team. They source locally grown vegetables and herbs and receive deliveries on a daily basis from Madison Seafood. “We have a great relationship with the folks there which helps to ensure the highest quality product,” Chef Eloy said. When I first visited Washington House in Basking Ridge, I found it hard to believe the building dates back to 1860. The white, colonial-style building has gone through many changes over the years — from boarding house and bootleggers’ hideout to tavern and restaurant.

They have staff that’ve been with the restaurant since the beginning — like the bar manager, Fran, who started as a food runner, and now he’s part of the management team. Meanwhile, staples like the Washington House grapefruit negroni, a twist on the classic — are continuously reworked and perfected. They often take inspiration from other venues, both local and afar, and create their own signature dishes and drinks, riffing on ideas they think will do well. While many guests come in specifically for the seafood, others head straight for the hearty burgers. Burger options include the Classic burger, Southwest black bean veggie burger, salmon burger (with avocado fries), angus sliders, and the Washington House burger.

Burgers, Beers, and Cocktails

The biggest change to the business profile came in 2020 during the pandemic. The tent became a real refuge for the town (and many others) during the hardest times of the pandemic. The Jepsen family owns this restaurant as well as a construction company called Scandic Builders. Not only does the restaurant offer a beautiful venue with great food, drinks, and all-around hospitality; they employ happy people and take care of their staff. Washington House has built a reputation for care amongst their staff — not just the guests they serve.

The Cat’s Meow Village

The Cat’s Meow Village is a small company founded in Wooster, Ohio in 1982 from one simple wooden house Faline cutout on her grandfather’s saw in the loft of the hog barn. In 2013, the Jepsen Family became partners with the former owner and at that time, their construction company Scandic Builders undertook the extensive renovation. The Jepsen Family, originally from Denmark, called upon their lifelong love of travel, dining out and elevated aesthetics when they designed the new space. Washington House took back its former name when the doors opened in May 2014. The Jepsens and their staff look forward to reaching the 10 year milestone next year and have great plans for the anniversary celebration.

The latter is served with smoked bacon, melted gruyere cheese, grilled romaine, and Bermuda onions, along with the house-made secret sauce. With all these options, there is something for everyone — and every palate. Washington House also offers $1 oysters all day on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We serve oysters grown in the rack and bag method from Cape Cod and North — cold waters are best.

A new shelter aims to help homeless women and children in Lee County

st matthews house

Throughout the years, community support has helped grow the small mission into a multi-faceted organization focused on spiritual change. St. Matthew’s House began in 1987 when a bible study group followed a calling to bring food to a homeless population living in a nearby wooded area. We strive for the best business and ministry practices in every area of the organization. In our personal lives, we are expected to live a life that is blameless and carry ourselves with integrity.

Pantry adopts National Best Practice food assistance model

St. Matthew’s House works to eliminate the elements of poverty at their base. Our homeless shelter and feeding ministry have opened their doors to countless lives without taking a day off in more than a quarter century. The “Task Force for the Homeless” began gathering contributions of both food and clothing, establishing the mission’s food pantry. Access links and tools for those needing assistance with food, shelter or addiction recovery. The Missions and Ranchos are a special designation of historic homes that have such a unique position in telling the history of southern California that they deserve a separate page.

If you would like to join in on our efforts, please donate your gently used items to St. Matthew’s House. We will arrange a fast & free donation pickup of your items in Naples, Bonita Springs, Fort Myers, and other areas in Southwest Florida. Underneath the picturesque vista, however, is a forgotten group of homeless people.

“Because our office does not know every detail of your property, we want to make it easy for you to seek your appeal,” Younger said at a Thursday press conference. Parents and legal guardians of disabled children may qualify for this exemption if they put the property in a legal trust for the benefit of the disabled individual. Under state law, properties are to be reassessed at least once every four years.

We encourage you to get to know our incredible community where children flourish as achievers and contributors, as learners and as human beings. St. Matthew’s House operates the only two homeless shelters in Collier County, the Campbell Lodge. You'll also get exclusive access to seasonal discounts and sales events. St. Matthew's House hosts or contributes to several events in our community every year. See what events you can be a part of as a volunteer, supporter, or attendee. The expected finish date for the Fort Myers homeless shelter is the summer of 2024.

Our residential treatment facilities provide life’s essentials, so that struggling individuals can focus on recovery. Within a few days of this Bible study, an article appears in the Naples Daily News about the homeless population living in the woods.

Since April 2020, we have distributed over 700,000 boxes of groceries, produce, dairy and proteins with weekly drive-through distributions at various locations. This model also afforded minimal contact during COVID as recipients could simply open their trunk and have groceries loaded by volunteers. St. Matthew's House is committed to assisting those who have a home but are living paycheck to paycheck, often at or below poverty level. We operate over a dozen food distributions across Southwest Florida every month, and also have a Choice Pantry available by appointment at our Food Warehouse in Naples. For donation pickup, we ask that all donations be ready, accessible, and safe to handle at the time of the pickup.

New shelter breaks ground in Fort Myers; will help homeless women, children

If you enjoy exploring the historic homes of famous, and not-so-famous people, there are a number of historic residences in Southern California that are open to the public as museums. Most of them are City, State and National Historic Landmarks There is some overlap with LA Local History Museums. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to learn about new arrivals, special promotions, and online exclusives.

There is also a Garden House on the property that was occupied by Dion Neutra and his family. Tours of the VDL House are conducted on Saturdays by architecture students from Cal Poly Pomona. In just months, homeless women and children in Lee County could find themselves a new home after a shelter broke ground this week to give up to 300 of them a safe place to land. Instead of offering a box of pre-selected items, qualified recipients will have a choice of what they receive. A recent study funded by the Morgan Stanley Foundation and conducted by Feeding America and University of Chicago included 28 food banks and 111 food pantries.

The scripture fresh in their minds, the parishioners, dubbing themselves, “The Task Force for the Homeless”, begin taking soup out to these forgotten souls. The first Thanksgiving Day meal is served to the homeless and hungry a couple of weeks later. By integrating faith, knowledge, and community, St. Matthew students will become a person with strong character, an effective communicator, an active Christian, a responsible citizen, and a life-long learner. As director of philanthropy and planned giving, Marquette will help supporters establish their legacy while transforming the lives of Immokalee’s youth.

Tour our beautiful campus and experience how St. Matthew's students flourish in our nurturing and welcoming community. Information and registration for our fall tours will be shared later this summer. In order to be notified, we invite you to complete an Inquiry Form.

Naples-based residential and commercial contracting company PBS Contractors has been renovating the building for the new shelter. He added Lee County offers a family shelter and a man's shelter, but there had been no facility that focused exclusively on women and children. We will continue working with our many wonderful partners and volunteers to keep our 10,000-square-foot warehouse stocked and ready to serve those needing assistance.

The overall goal at the shelter is to help residents develop a foundation for a new lifestyle and provide them with a positive environment to make that change. Our program offers compassionate, disciplined counseling and guidance to each resident’s physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges. At St. Matthew’s Parish School, our students flourish in both mind and in heart. They each find and build on their unique set of strengths and talents, and dedicate them not only to their own enrichment, but to the service of others, of their communities, and of the planet. As an Episcopal school grounded in the values of inclusion, our community welcomes families of all faiths and cultures.

St. Matthew’s continues its tradition of inspiring a love of learning at every grade and teaching children how to self advocate through our model of service leadership to help each child flourish to their true potential. Fighting Hunger, Homelessness, Addiction, and Poverty for over 30 YearsOur unique social enterprise business model helps cover the administrative expenses for the organization, so donations go toward our program expenses. For 35 years, St. Matthew’s House has been responding to community needs while continually introducing innovative programs and services to better serve the individuals and families who turn to us for help, hope and healing.

St. Matthew’s House food distributions will continue to some of the area’s more distant locations of LaBelle, Immokalee and the Golden Gate Senior Center. Also, in the event of a local emergency, we are prepared to pivot back to drive-through distributions. When Hurricane Ian hit in 2022, St. Matthew’s House responded to these extreme circumstances with a massive response. This was made possible with the help of our food bank partners, community food drives, individual donors, the Richard M. Schulze Family Foundation, Community Foundation, church partners and hundreds of volunteers. Give your in-kind gifts (furniture, appliances, clothing, etc.) so that your used items can impact the lives of the less fortunate.

The public also can help by donating funds and food staples or volunteering. Immokalee Friendship House provides shelter to over 1,000 people and feeds over 25,000 meals each year. Upon arrival, each Immokalee Friendship House resident's needs are assessed and in-house assistance and referrals are coordinated. St. Matthew's House is a part of recovery, not a permanent place to live. Our goal is to equip each person that leaves St. Matthew's House to make the transition from a homeless lifestyle to self-sufficiency. When SMH residents enter our Emergency/Transitional Housing Program, they subsequently submit themselves to our rules and regulations.

5 Best German Restaurants in Charlotte, NC

With its liberal public drinking laws and open-air biergartens, Germany’s drinking culture is almost as sacred as the country’s speed-limitless freeways. You can get a taste of the former at Edelweiss Biergarten in Northern Phoenix. This German-Hungarian restaurant has the largest selection of German beer in Arizona, which you can enjoy on the restaurant’s outdoor patio — just like in Deutschland. Good Wurst Company has been serving the community with the best-tasting homemade wists and smoked meats. Their products are made from scratch and their ingredients are served locally.

Pick Up Your Favorite Food

Their sandwiches are served with homemade Bosnian flatbread. The selections include a Bosnian burger, spicy Bosnian sausage, and shish kebab. Waldhorn Restaurant serves authentic German cuisine in a cozy restaurant. They also serve international main dishes with the finest ingredients and premium meats. Futehmroe, they serve dinner and lunch with a wide selection of drinks. The beer menu includes 12 German drafts and 27 German bottles.

Minnesota: Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter

Located in a Colorado Springs strip mall, Uwe’s German Restaurant doesn’t look like much from the outside, and, well, the inside doesn’t look great either. But you don’t go to Uwe’s for the interior decorating; you go for the tender sauerbraten, crispy schnitzel, and homemade spätzle. Love that its an actual spicy sausage, cut in half and put on the roll.

Of course, Stammtisch also has an eclectic beer menu, with over a dozen German beers (and a cider) on tap. Like many German restaurants, Stammtisch’s aesthetic is dominated by an abundance of exposed bricks and large wooden tables. Beyond bratwurst and beer, there’s not much here that’s German. But as long as you’re not a stickler for traditional German cuisine, you’re likely to enjoy the salads, sandwiches, and brats — and have a great time — at Rathskeller Bier Haus in Omaha. The fact that the restaurant has its own Oktoberfest celebration and plenty of German beer to go around should tell you all you need to know.

Good Wurst Company

Whether you want to grab a kölsch and a pretzel or dig into a roasted chicken, West Berlin offers the best of German cuisine. We’re especially happy to see currywurst on the menu, a street food specialty that’s difficult to find outside of Germany. Although the dish costs nearly four times as much as it does in Berlin, the delectable combination of curry sauce and sausage is (almost) priceless. Incredible place featuring house made montreal style bagels (this is a thing, google it!), sausages, and more. Excellent food, big beer selection, lots of space to enjoy. This includes soft German pretzels and a wide selection of traditional sausages.

Beer drinkers will rejoice when they see the list of 34 beers on tap, and foodies won’t be disappointed by the pub’s classic German dishes. Heidelberg Haus also doubles as a German gift shop with wall-to-wall beer steins and gnomes. For over 80 years, this family-owned restaurant has been serving up German-American cuisine, and they do a darn good job. Beyond the food, East Side stands out thanks to its massive two-story restaurant, which includes a biergarten and room designed after Munich’s historic Hofbräuhaus. Experience the perfect combination of Southern hospitality and classic German brewing tradition at OMB in Charlotte, NC.

Furthermore, they have seasonal offerings through Weiner blends, baked goods, and drinks. They serve wursts like house frankfurter, Hoffman’s White hot, and housemade bratwurst. There are also opinions of veggie bratwurst, smoked jalapeno and cheddar bratwurst, and knockwurst.

But road trippers and South Carolina natives ought to give this cozy and casual German eatery a chance, especially given its near-perfect reviews on Google and Trip Advisor. Restaurant goers can expect traditional German mains and beers alongside homemade tortes and cakes. Schmidt’s is more than just a great German restaurant; it’s a bonafide historical landmark that traces its history back to the 1880s, when J. Fred Schmidt emigrated from Germany and opened a meat packing plant in the heart of Columbus’ German Village. That has evolved into a well-known sausage brand and one of Ohio’s top-rated German restaurants, which is saying a lot given its many German eateries. Cafe Berlin sits in a nondescript shopping complex a few miles down the road from the drunken tourists, tense gamblers, and bright lights of the Las Vegas strip.

Though indoor dining is still closed, the beer garden is open. The Kurz family has been serving brats and brews in Motor City since the 1930s. Grandfather Kurz started this family-run, nearly 90-year-old pub after working in Highland Park’s auto factory and saving up to renovate an old hand laundry.

Charlotte's oldest standing independent brewery, serving the Carolinas since 2009. Gilde Brewery has your back for all your private event needs! We have capacity for large and small parties, capable of serving 200+ people. Experience the centuries-old, traditional German brewing heritage combined with the American craft beer movement right here in Lower South End.

The Schnitzel Express serves no-frills German comfort food — like pork cutlet slathered in creamy brown gravy and served in a styrofoam box — that receives rave reviews online. It’s the perfect place to go for a humble, delicious bite on a tight budget. Note that The Schnitzel Express has moved to a new location, so not all social media outlets have updated content.

Today, the savory German-Russian pastry is a Midwestern staple, and few do it better than M&M Bierock, a simple hole-in-the-wall drive-thru. M&M’s cheesy, hearty bierocks are the talk of the town in Wichita. A gratuity of 20+% for your server is greatly appreciated. For your convenience, a gratuity of 20% is included for parties of 6 or more.

Waldhorn’s menu is also notable for its range and authenticity, which shouldn’t be a surprise given owner Gitta Maier professional culinary training in Germany. Located on the Upper East Side in a neighborhood that was once known as Kleindeutschland (Little Germany), Heidelberg is a testament to the area’s history. It also serves well-sourced, authentic German food, such as gebratene ente (roasted duck) and schweinshaxe.

The restaurant’s old-world Alpine delights include bratwurst fondue and papet vaudois (sausage served over leeks and potato). In the 19th century, Germans immigrated to Wisconsin en masse and were the largest immigrant group to settle in the Badger State. Unsurprisingly, Germans restaurants abound in Milwaukee, the country’s “most German American city.” But Kegel’s Inn stands above the rest. Established in the early 1900s, this Wisconsin institution serves loaded bratwursts, a variety of schnitzel, and a host of seafood dishes. Kegel’s also looks the part with its cobblestone exterior, biergarten, and historic stained glass windows. From fried potato cakes and fries to schnitzel and roasted chicken, Portland’s Stammtisch features a variety of both small and large classic German plates.

At the Würst Bier Hall, customers can order a bacon flight with beer pairings alongside more traditional German bar fare such as a giant Bavarian-style pretzel. In other words, it’s a carnivore’s paradise that will give meat-lovers plenty to drool over. Not only do they have a considerable number of pilsners and hefeweizens on tap, but they also have their own beer club. Members pay a one-time $30 fee, which includes a half-liter stein and discounts every time you come in.

Find Trendy Clothes at Fancy Pants Charlotte: A Boutique for Kids

Fancy Pants, The Award-Winning Children's Boutique, offers fine children's clothing and gifts, from newborn to teen, including an extensive boys department. I bought a nice outfit (way more than Id normally spend) for my sons baptism. I washed it on delicate cycle per the garment instructions and tried it on him and a button had already fallen off and the seams of the outfit were coming apart with loose threads everywhere. I took it back to the store and they said there was nothing they could do and would not even offer me store credit for an exchange. I cannot spend that kind of money on another outfit and now my baby has nothing to wear to his baptism in 3 days. I will never shop at this store again and I dont recommend it to anyone else.

The store’s staff, led by Jonni Miller, is dedicated to ensuring kids look and feel their best daily. Shop for first birthday outfits, family portrait clothing, and everyday play clothes for infants. Its unwavering commitment to quality sets Fancy Pants Charlotte apart from the ordinary. The boutique collaborates with renowned designers and reputable brands to bring only the finest and most stylish clothing to its customers.

Let's get your session on my calendar, and let's create memories that you'll remember for a lifetime. It's all about the JOurney and the experiences along the way that define our style. The brand character is a true fabric of East Coast Classic meets SoCal Lifestyle.

We all know they can be tougher on their clothes too! Fancy Pants Charlotte just included a new line from Johnnie-O that is all the rave! Here’s a list of the different types of clothing you can find for the little boys in your life.

We brought our Daughter here after just receiving blood and a checkup on her feeding tube. She picked out a stuffed unicorn and was beyond excited. The Owner immediately said, "are you going to buy that? If not, you need to put that back." She was incredibly rude!

At this price point they should stand by the products they sell and they clearly do not. Children’s clothing is available from various trusted brands, including Mayoral, Splendid, Ella Moss, Miss B, Three Friends, Susanne Lively, and Un Deux Trois. Children’s apparel is available up to size 16. Additionally, pieces include button-down shirts, dresses, polo shirts, slacks, and more. I have 3 young children and had hoped to enjoy some fall shopping today, without them in tow.

Fancy Pants caters to all stages of childhood, offering an impressive array of options for infants, toddlers, and pre-teens alike. Whether it’s a casual day at the park or a formal event, Fancy Pants ensures that children are dressed to impress for every occasion. Fancy Pants is Charlotte’s best children’s boutique, offering a fantastic collection of fine children’s clothing and gifts since its opening in 2005. Located in the heart of Charlotte, next to Harris Teeter in the Myers Park Shopping Center, Fancy Pants offers a great selection of apparel for newborns through teens. Fancy Pants in Charlotte offers an extensive collection of exceptional pieces for the whole family.

Additionally, every garment is crafted with the softest fabrics, ensuring maximum comfort for active little ones. The attention to detail and exceptional craftsmanship make parents feel confident that they are dressing their children in the best. The Johnnie-O collection at Fancy Pants opened in 2020 as part of the store’s 15th-anniversary celebration.

I was prepared to spend as they all need fall clothes but the women working in the shop continually hassled me about my drink. I am an adult very capable of handling my drink and would gladly replace anything should I spill it or happily help clean it. Completely unprofessional and rude, especially to someone trying to support your small business. Whether your child needs a christening gown or play clothes, we have what you need for all the special moments of growing up. Shop for dresses, father/daughter dances, birthday outfits, and shirts in sizes 7-16. I recently stopped in to get my toddler some Christmas PJs and a winter coat that was a little dressier.
